Interior of small, tightly packed points in near-black violet; in ambient light the cavity reads as a void with a lit purple rim. Under a directed lamp, individual facets return sharp white flashes scattered across the field — the crystal faces are intact and reflective, the darkness is color depth, not dullness. The polished shell edge shows layered purple banding.
The darkest cavity in this batch. Uruguayan amethyst is graded above all on depth of color, and this egg sits at the far end of that scale — violet dense enough to read as black until light enters at an angle. The tall opening runs nearly the full face, so the entire depth of color is on display at once, framed by a polished rim of banded purple.
Why collectors want this
Color this deep with the crystal still clean is the narrow end of the range — pushed slightly further, material goes grey or loses its flash; an even, near-black cavity of this height is what "top color" means for the locality.
Living with it
