Polished shell with grey-violet banding at the rim; interior lined in deep purple points of even, moderate size. The white quartz cluster is translucent, roughly fist-scale against the cavity, with fine grey speckling on its surfaces — visible and disclosed. Lit from the front, the amethyst stays dark while the white quartz transmits light and visibly brightens; it is the focal point at any viewing distance.
A near-spherical geode cut with a wide round opening, and on the cavity floor, a milky-white quartz cluster sitting among the purple. Amethyst and white quartz are the same mineral — the violet appears only when traces of iron and natural radiation cooperate — so this cavity records two rounds of growth: a first generation that had the color recipe, and a later one that grew without it. The stone switched from purple to white partway through its life, and the cut happens to display that switch centred in the opening.
Why collectors want this
Cavities showing two distinct quartz generations — colored, then colorless — are the minority, and in most of them the later cluster grows against a wall or out of sight; one this size with the white generation centred on the floor of a clean-cut opening is the harder find.
Living with it
A dining sideboard or entry cabinet with a small downlight above the opening — the white crystal lights up against the dark purple, and it reads clearly from across the room.
