The matrix runs charcoal to near-black, matte with a faint silky sheen along its foliation. The exposure window is silvery grey. Against it, the emerald shows its signature cool, slightly bluish green: the main prism vertical and saturated, spanning roughly half the window's height; the smaller crystal patches a shade lighter, one ringed like a small green rosette.
Every cut emerald in a jewelry case began like this: a green crystal locked inside dark schist, exactly where it formed. On this tall, peak-shaped specimen, the black matrix opens a pale grey window — and inside it, an emerald prism still stands upright in its birthplace, untouched, with two rounded green companions below.
