Visual description

Deep violet-blue fluorite rises in rounded bands and small clusters from a cool grey matrix, the colour reading almost sapphire where it catches direct light. A pale ridge of fine quartz frost runs across the upper slopes, tracing the contour of the matrix like a drawn line and setting off the blue by contrast.

A few Fujian pockets produce fluorite in this particular register of purple — deep violet leaning into blue, the shade that gives the piece its Chinese trade name. Here it wells up in bands and clusters from a cool grey matrix, while a winding ridge of ivory quartz frost traces the slopes above it like a snow-crest following a mountain line.

Why collectors want this

The color alone carries it: a violet-blue this saturated is the register fluorite collectors hunt for, and the grey matrix — rather than competing — serves it like a gallery wall. The snow-crest line gives the composition a drawn structure most matrix pieces lack.

Living with it

Light from a slightly raised front angle keeps the violet-blue saturated without washing out the grey matrix beneath it; avoid backlighting, which flattens the colour contrast that makes the piece work. A neutral or pale backdrop lets the blue read at full strength.
